A Chicago teenager was looking for money, officials said, when he allegedly broke into an ice cream store in Belmont Cragin on April 7.

But before he took money from the cash register of the West Diversey Avenue store, Elvin Renteria was caught on a surveillance camera sampling the ice cream, prosecutors said.

Renteria, 17, was arrested Monday and appeared at the Cook County Courthouse on Tuesday, where he was charged as an adult with burglary and held on $30,000 bond.

Police arrested Renteria on Monday while he was passing through the 2400 block of North Mango Avenue. According to the police report, Renteria, of the 2200 block of South Menard Avenue, told officers he broke into the back door of the shop using a screwdriver.
