Not to be outdone by neighboring 'hoods Bucktown and Wicker Park, Logan Square now will have its own beer festival as well.

The Logan Square Beer Fest, set for Sept. 21 at Logan Square Auditorium, is a new event that organizers Dave Watts and Marcus Osacky said will spotlight 20 breweries, most from the Midwest.

"We're looking for each brewery to bring one of their regular seasonal beers and a specialty beer like a collaboration or cask-conditioned or barrel-aged beer, something you could only get at this fest," Watts said. "It's going to be a real craft beer lovers' fest."

Currently, the fest is in its early planning stages, with only four breweries-Two Brothers, Wild Onion, Lakefront and Emmett's-confirmed. Watts said he and his partner are close to signing up the remaining breweries and that a full lineup will be announced soon.

Tickets already are on sale for $45, with a $55 VIP option that allows those ticket-holders entry an hour before general admission.
Watts said a major goal was to keep the festival on the smaller side; only 600 tickets will be sold to ensure that there won't be long lines for samples.

Food vendors, beer merchandise raffles and live music will round out the program. A website with more information is forthcoming.

"I'm a big craft beer lover and a homebrewer, so I've been to a lot of these festivals. I know what I like and don't like," Watts said. "We want to make this an awesome festival that people will look forward to each year."
