Great Googa Mooga nixes Chicago fest

Great Googa Mooga, strange name and all, will not be making a Chicago appearance this summer. The music and food festival, which has taken place the past two years in Brooklyn's Prospect Park, was in talks with the city to launch a Chicago version, but has chosen to postpone those plans until next year.

"We want to make sure we get it right the first year, because we think we have something that could be around and on the calendar year after year," said Brian Ferber, director of business development at Jam USA, the production company that, along with entertainment company Superfly, would organize a Chicago offshoot of Great Googa Mooga.

A representative from 46th Ward Alderman James Cappleman confirmed that the festival had discussed hosting the event at Montrose Beach, but recently called off plans.

"We officially decided [to postpone the festival until next year] just a few weeks ago," Ferber said. "But we're committed to doing something next year."

That leaves Lollapalooza as the Chicago fest with the oddest name, at least for one more summer.
