Luigi taking over CTA on Monday

Next stop, the Mushroom Kingdom? Some CTA commuters might feel as if they've taken a warp pipe to Super Mario Land instead of an L train on Monday.

Nintendo is teaming up with the CTA to transform a Brown Line train into the "Luigi Line" from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. The special train will be wrapped in all green to match the color of the preferred outfit of Mario's super sidekick. Luigi himself is also expected to take the commute along with some Brown Line riders. Mama mia!

It's part of a campaign by the Redmond, Wa.-based video game developer to promote the retail launch of "New Super Luigi U" for the Wii U system, which is scheduled to hit Aug. 25. It's a revamped version of last fall's "New Super Mario U" that asks Mario to sit on the sidelines (for once) and let his lanky sibling be the star. Earlier this year, Nintendo dubbed 2013 the Year of Luigi to honor the thirtieth anniversary of the debut of Mario's brother in the original "Mario Bros." game.

In addition to the Luigi Line, Nintendo is also setting up kiosks that will let commuters play "New Super Luigi U"  at the Clark/Lake train station all day. But sorry, CTA'ers, no word on the possibility of giant gold coins laying around.
