At the Great American Beer Festival this past weekend in Denver, thirsty attendees lined up to sample beers from craft breweries around the country. Several Chicago-area breweries also did their home state proud by placing in the festival's competition.
Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF awards medals in 84 different categories of beer styles. More than 600 breweries entered a total of 4,300 entries. Read more about the criteria for gold, silver and bronze metals here.
Logan Square's Revolution Brewing won two medals: gold in the English-style summer ale category for Cross of Gold and bronze in the American-Belgo-style ale category for A Little Crazy.
Goose Island won a gold medal in the English-style IPA category for its India Pale Ale.
West-suburban favorite Two Brothers took home two medals: silver in the south German-style hefeweizen category for Ebel's Weiss and bronze in the Belgian- and French-style ale category for Domaine DuPage.
Wicker Park's Piece won a silver medal the American-style pale ale category for its entry, The Weight.
Relative newcomer 5 Rabbit won a bronze medal in the fruit wheat beer category for its 5 Lizard Latin-style witbier. Three Floyds, located in Indiana but considered by many to be a Chicago-area brewery by proximity, won a bronze medal in the American-style pale ale category for Zombie Dust.
