CTA delivers Red Line bummer

The CTA has extended its bid for a general contractor to overhaul the Wilson Red Line stop until Sept. 30, the agency said Thursday.

The CTA had planned to have its board vote on a contractor at the board's August meeting but extended the deadline so addendums could be made to the original invitation for bids, CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase said.

This extension from the mid-June deadline is not unusual for a project like this, Chase said.

"The addendums include changing insurance requirements, forms bidders must complete, requests by potential bidders for clarifications on specs or parts/materials required for the project, nuts-and-bolts kinds of things," Chase said.

The $203 million project is expected to transform the Wilson station into a transfer stop for the Purple Line and a station that's accessible for riders with disabilities.

The Wilson stop in Uptown has been a three-time winner of Going Public's Crust Station contest to honor the worst CTA station based on crabby rider complaints.

Work on the station was scheduled to begin in the fall and last through 2016.
