Police officers met a CTA bus at the corner of 55th Street and Ashland Avenue after the driver asked them to escort a rowdy man off the bus Monday night. But that man turned into a witness moments later, when he directed officers to a man on the bus with a gun, county prosecutors said.

That man was Darius Jones, 21, of the 9000 block of South Loomis Street, prosecutors said. He was arrested on multiple unlawful weapons possessions charges after officers found a gun inside a plastic bag full of videotapes on the floor of the bus, according to the police report. The gun was fully-loaded with one live round, the report said.

Officers were originally flagged down by the bus driver because the witness was causing a disturbance on the bus, according to court records. Prosecutors said the witness was being argumentative and loud on the bus with several passengers, including Jones.

Jones, who has had a previous felony conviction, which makes the weapons charge more severe, was brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Wednesday afternoon and ordered held on $100,000 bond.
