The man they call "Magic Mike" has put some spell on Chicago.
After fans cast a total of more than 3,600 votes on the RedEye Sports Facebook page last week, Fire forward Mike Magee emerged as the 2013 Chicago Sports Stud of the Year.
The arrow's been pointing up for the Chicago-area native all season. Since being traded to the Fire early in the year, Magee scored 15 goals and notched four assists. He had a total of 21 goals in 2013 and was named MLS' most valuable player last month.
He also might be invited to the U.S. national team camp in January, meaning 2014 could be even bigger for the 29-year-old.
Magee raked in 57 percent of the vote, followed by Sky forward Elena Delle Donne at 38 percent.
On the other side of the coin, it pains us to give our 2013 Dud of the Year "honor" to a native Chicagoan. One who's a former NBA Rookie of the Year and MVP, no less.
But after waiting a year and a half for Derrick Rose's return, fans understandably are bitter now that he's injured again and the Bulls are in a tailspin. He hauled in half the vote in our poll. Chalk it up to horrible luck, not necessarily lousy performance. And see ya in fall 2014.
