The Chicago Bears have agreed to a one-year deal with safety M.D Jennings, a fourth-year veteran who has made 26 starts for the Green Bay Packers over the past two seasons.
Jennings, 25, went undrafted out of Arkansas State in 2011 but carved out a niche in Green Bay. Last season, he made 16 starts for the Packers but went without an interception, recording 74 total tackles.
With Jennings coming off a subpar season with Green Bay, the Bears will be hoping to get better results.
The Bears signed two likely defensive starters Tuesday with the additions of defensive end Lamarr Houston and safety Ryan Mundy. It's presumed Jennings will be given an opportunity to compete for a starting job at safety, a position where the Bears are thin at this point.
Chris Conte will return. But the plan all along has been to let Major Wright, last year's other safety starter, walk away in free agency.
