When I was getting ready for my Chicago sports weekend in Pittsburgh, I made a list of famous Chicago things I might see there: deep dish pizza, potholes, athlete statues, etc.
I should have added "disappointment" to the list.
The Blackhawks fell to the Penguins 4-1 on Sunday at the Consol Energy Center.
The next day, the Cubs fell to the Pirates 1-0 in 10 innings on Opening Day.
There were many more Blackhawks fans in Pittsburgh than Cubs fans. I spotted these fans sightseeing at Point State Park and drinking at a church-turned-brewery.
I had already been to the Penguins arena but continue to be impressed by the sight lines and easy walk from downtown.
I was not as impressed by the Hawks' play. I joined other Chicago fans as they hung their heads for a Hawk of Shame leaving the Consol Center.
I expected to see as many Cubs fans at the Pirates game, but the stands were a sea of black and gold.
I visited Pirates PNC Park two years ago, but was excited to go back when I heard the park is selling a new sourdough sandwich with something called a compote and NINE cheeses. I love cheese. I was determined to love the sandwich, called "The Closer."
Alas, it was sold out before the game even started.
The Cubs play was equally disappointing. Forget The Closer-they didn't have any hitters.
Not gouda for anyone.
