CTA replica, water tower DJ

Forget the Green Line. There's a new "L" on the West Side.

Event Creative, a Chicago event design and production agency, fashioned an "L" system for a U.S. Travel Association event this week at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios in North Lawndale.

More than 20 Event Creative employees worked to handcraft the track and the rail ties. They shaped two 20-foot-long rail cars that were used for a video display of Chicago attractions, said Melissa Kirby, vice president of design and new business for Event Creative.

"It was a fun way to give people kind of a tour of all the different things you can see and do on the train lines without having to leave their seat," Kirby said.

All of the track had to be built and assembled at Cinespace, Kirby said. The team also built a replica of a water tower next to the train track to house a DJ for the party.

Kirby said Event Creative was hired by Brand USA, a partner in the U.S. Travel Association event, to make the train system. She wouldn't say how much it cost to create it.

The system is available for rent, Kirby said, but prices vary on sections of track and train cars used and transportation of those components.
