People say Barack Obama is a lot of things. Some are questionable, some are outrageous, others are true. One thing he definitely is, though, is the president--a multifaceted gig, to say the least.
A new art exhibit presented by the Chicago Loop Alliance from artist Rick Valicenti emphasizes the many archetypal roles that Obama plays as president, from "The Coach" to "The Neighbor" to "The Heartthrob." The Thirst/3st display features 50 hybrid images of the president's mug integrated with other faces that embody specific highlighted qualities.
Located at the Inland Steel Building, the exhibit's opening reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 5 with complimentary beer and wine. Both the opening and the daily exhibit are free and open to the public. The exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday until Nov. 17.
"This [exhibit] has been personally meaningful research in the realm of identity," Valicenti, founder and design director of Thirst/3st, said in a press release. "While the notion of making hybrid images is something I have been working with for years, this seasonally--specific opportunity takes into account the subjective in an interesting manner--in other words, the president's features become more or less prominent based on how much he embodies one of these many personas."
The show is the last of the Pop-Up Loop Art project, launched by CLA in November 2009 to transform empty storefronts in the Loop into vibrant temporary art galleries open to the public.
