When it comes to ranking the best cities for Millennials, Chicago is just off the winners podium.
Chicago is the fourth best place to live for Millennials, according to a recently published survey by neighborhood and school data aggregator Niche. Using a variety of factors--including crime, income, age and median rent--the site ranked 25 major U.S. cities based on which is best for Millennials. A survey of current and former students in each city was also used to determine the rankings.
In addition to taking fourth place, the survey concluded that Wicker Park is the best Chicago neighborhood for Millennials. The survey, paired with city data, concluded that 14 percent of Chicago's population is between 25-34, with a median rent of $931, a $30,061 median income and an "average" crime rate.
One caveat, however, is that data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report is incomplete for Chicago, so median national crime values were assigned to the city.
The survey of Niche users included questions about nightlife, professional sports, transportation, shopping and best areas to live post-graduation, among others.
