If you like to make special trips to the farmers market to buy produce, meat and more from small local farms, you'll have another option this fall.
Local Foods--a year-old Chicago company that supplies goods from local farms to restaurants such as Trenchermen and Nana--has announced plans for a multi-use facility in Bucktown that will include a retail market open to the public.
"Until now, there have been few channels for small-scale, family farms to sell products in Chicagoland beyond farmers markets," said Local Foods partner Ryan Kimura in a company statement. "Local Foods offers a market for locally produced products while removing the burden of driving and logistics."
The facility is slated to open this fall at 1455 W. Willow St. The retail market portion will account for about 3,500 square feet of the 27,000-square-foot facility, which will also house wholesale distribution, meat processing and office space.
