Last call for duck fat fries.
In an announcement with little fanfare Tuesday morning, Hot Doug's owner Doug Sohn said the restaurant was closing for good on Oct. 3.
"For me it's just time to do it," Sohn said when reached by phone Tuesday morning, confirming the announcement on Hot Doug's website. "There's nothing sinister. It's time to end it and do something else. I am at a point where I think its time to end the run."
Sohn said he has no plans to sell, and Friday, Oct. 3 will be the final date the 3324 N. California Ave. location will be open. He also said the decision did not come lightly and he isn't sure what's next.
"I'm going to lie down for a little bit and I am going to go out for lunch, because that sounds like fun," he said.
The announcement came by surprise Tuesday on his website, where he announced closures for Memorial Day weekend. Underneath, the real news:
Oh by the way, permanent vacation begins Saturday, October 4," the announcement read.
