'Most boring' places in Illinois

If you grew up in Chicago's suburbs, you might want to start defending your hometown.

Real estate blog Movoto released their ranking of Illinois'"most boring places" late last week, and a lot of near suburbs made the list. The site is quick to point out (almost apologetically) that the list is all in good fun, but it is based on hard data.

The site used a number of factors, including bars and clubs per-capita, live music venues per capita, percentage of residents between 20 and 34 years old and the number of fast food resturants versus full-service resturants, to put together the ranking. Data from the 100 most populated cities and towns in Illinois were used, so smaller towns didn't make the cut.

Here's the ranking:

1. Village of New Lenox
2. City of Rolling Meadows
3. Calumet City
4. Village of Lake in the Hills
5. Village of Huntley
6. Village of Bolingbrook (tie)
6. Village of Hanover Park (tie)
8. Village of Oswego
9. Village of Vernon Hills
10. Village of Streamwood

The post was a companion to an earlier ranking by the site, which determined the most exciting towns in the state. Using the same methods, Movoto found that Evanston ranked first and Chicago fourth.
