The Dearborn Street bridge downtown will be closed Tuesday through next Monday to accommodate work on the Chicago Riverwalk project, officials said.
Construction of under-bridge walkway connections will require lifting and closing the Dearborn bridge for a period of several days, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.
After Dearborn, the State Street Bridge will close temporarily in mid-July, with the exact dates to be determined, CDOT said.
During the Dearborn bridge closure, all vehicles including CTA buses will be detoured west on Wacker Drive, north on La Salle Street and east on Illinois Street to Dearborn, CDOT said.
Northbound bicycles on Dearborn will detour east on Lake Street, north on State Street, west on Kinzie Street, then back to Dearborn. Southbound bikes will detour west on Kinzie Street, south on Clark Street, then return to Dearborn via Lake Street.
The Riverwalk project will create a continuous pedestrian path along the south bank of the Chicago River from State Street to Lake Street.
