The Emmys gave "Breaking Bad" another wrap party Monday, honoring the drama with a slew of awards for its final season that ended last year.
Besides the AMC show picking up best drama, Bryan Cranston took his fourth lead actor Emmy for playing Walter White, Aaron Paul got his third supporting actor award and Anna Gunn picked up her second. The show also earned a writing award at the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
"Thank you so much for this farewell to our show," creator Vince Gilligan said. "You have been very kind to us indeed."
It was a night of repeat winners, including a fifth best comedy Emmy for "Modern Family," even thought it was competing against "Orange is the New Black."
Emmy voters didn't seem to venture far from their 2013 ballots in many categories. Host Seth Meyers didn't shake things up too much, either, offering a safe, insider opening monologue that took jabs as the TV industry but not too many stars.
Still, the NBC broadcast had its moments. Read on ...
Best monologue joke
"We had comedies that made you laugh and comedies that made you cry-because they were dramas submitted as comedies."
-Seth Meyers, joking about "Orange Is the New Black" being entered in comedy instead of drama categories.
Award we wish existed
When Amy Poehler went onstage to present the night's first award, she joked it was for "best on-screen orgasm in a Civil War re-enactment." Amy, be on every awards show.
All right, all right, all right
Matthew McConaughey was the go-to target for jokes. Jimmy Kimmel lambasted the "True Detective" actor. "You got fat since the Oscars," he said of the Academy Award-winner, adding, "How many of your acceptance speeches are we expected to sit through?" When "Modern Family" director Gail Mancuso accepted her trophy, she said to him from the stage, "If you don't mind ... I'm just going to make eye contact with you right now." McConaughey did not win an Emmy later.
Random acceptance speech quote
"We're all just made of molecules and we're hurling through space right now."
-Sarah Silverman, accepting her Emmy for outstanding writing for a variety special. She also thanked her agents, Larry, Moe and Curly.
Kissing co-stars
No surprise that Julia Louis-Dreyfus won an outstanding comedy actress Emmy for the third year in a row, but the actress had a shock Monday. When walking up to accept her award for "Veep," Bryan Cranston gave her a long, looong kiss. The two presented an award earlier and she pretended not to remember she had to kiss Cranston once on "Seinfeld.""Yep, he was definitely on `Seinfeld,'" she said after the kiss. Watch the video below.
Game of laughs
Weird Al Yankovic's made-up TV theme song medley was an unfortunate part of the telecast, but it did give us Andy Samberg, dressed as King Joffrey from "Game of Thrones," interrupting Lena Headey as she presented the next award.
Double threat
Bryan Cranston may have won for a dramatic role, but his acceptance speech had a few good laughs, including telling his "TV wife" Anna Gunn, "I love you ... especially those scenes in bed," and joking, "Even I thought about voting for Matthew," a reference to Matthew McConaughey, who was nominated for "True Detective."
