Rumblings that The Abbey, a standout gay bar from West Hollywood, might be opening a second location in Chicago haven't gotten past the "rumor" stage, as it turns out.
"We're always on the lookout for a second location," said Widran Quesada, spokesman for The Abbey. "But there haven't been any decisions made."
Rumors began circling this summer that a spot at 3532 N. Halsted St. in Boystown was being eyed and ChicagoPride.comreported that Wendy Berger Shapiro, who runs a Chicago equities firm, was under contract to buy the location.
Early reports had hinted that zoning changes might be needed in the spot, which was formerly an auto repair shop.
Shapiro, when contacted by RedEye, said that the issue holding up a possible opening wasn't related to zoning but refused to comment on anything else related to The Abbey.
