While foodies spend their lunch breaks chasing down food trucks, fans of vintage clothing should keep their eyes peeled for Lost Girls, a mobile vintage shop.
Armed with previous experience selling vintage wares at flea markets, Kyla Embrey and Sarah Azzouzi teamed up to put a new spin on vintage shopping without sacrificing their thirst for adventure. "We wanted to see the world without being tied to a shop," Embrey said.
A mutual love of Peter Pan was the inspiration behind the Lost Girls name. "We really related to the sense of fun and the idea of being forever young," Azzouzi said.
They purchased a 1976 Winnebago RV-and appropriately nicknamed it Winnie-and with the help of a contractor, they outfitted it in orange and white chevron stripes and rehabbed the interior to make space for vintage kimonos, bejeweled flats and fringed bags and jackets.
Since their launch last spring, the pair has traveled from Chicago to Austin,Texas; Portland, Ore.; Grand Rapids, Mich. and St. Louis. The harsh winter, however, took its toll on Winnie and they're now limited to smaller road trips. "We have big plans to get another vehicle so we can go further," Embrey said.
