4 downs with Jason McKie

Every week, former Bears fullback Jason McKie will tackle four questions facing the team. Some serious, some far from it.

1. There is a lot of yelling by coaches after a loss like the Bears had Sunday.

TRUE (but it depends on the coach)

During film review I remember times when there would be yelling not only from Lovie Smith but from your position coach, especially if you were making common mistakes that you can't make. There'd be some yelling because they expect you to play at a high level. I'm sure there was some yelling this week at Halas Hall. I'm not sure if [Marc Trestman is] the yelling type, but it depends on the coach.

2. Your teammates never let you live it down if you get stiff-armed.

TRUE

At the time it's not funny because it could be at a crucial point in the game that could affect the outcome of the game, like Chris Conte's stiff-arm [play]. But maybe after a few games or after a few wins under their belts or after the season they might say "hey man, Fred Jackson actually stiff-armed you twice on one play." They'll laugh about it. But obviously for Bears fans and for everybody on that defense it wasn't a laughing matter on Sunday.

3. Night games are better than day games.

DEPENDS

Some people like day games because one, you get the early game so you get to spend the rest of the day with your family. Also, you get an opportunity to go home and watch that [upcoming oppoent] and get an early jump on the scouting report. But night games are good too because it gives you an opportunity to play in prime time in front of the whole country. Players don't have a preference, but I think they like being able to play day games and night games all in one season.

4. Jim Harbaugh should buy nicer pants.

FALSE

If there's anything is to be learned from San Francisco, a lot of coaches need to make that trip to Wal-Mart or Sam's Club like Jim Harbaugh did, so maybe you'll have the same type of success he had. Maybe it's a superstition, but if his $8 Wal-Mart pants are helping his team play well, then maybe some of the coaches should do that. Maybe I'll send Marc Trestman some of those pants.

Extra down: The NFL should replace Roger Goodell as commissioner.

TRUE

I look at it like this. [Ray Rice's arrest] happened months ago. The tape was just released but if Goodell and the NFL did an investigation on this whole situation and gave Ray Rice a two-game suspension, I mean, didn't they have the ability to look at the tape? They just now implemented discipline for domestic violence when it should have been in the code of conduct for a long time already. As much as he gets paid to make these decisions and to not do his due diligence in the investigation that they had, I just find it hard to believe that you can sell "I just made a mistake." I know that a lot of players have gripes because he's quick to fine the players, but anytime you see a coach or executive get in trouble, disciplinary action gets handed down two weeks to a month later. A lot of guys just don't think that's fair, and I think he should be replaced because it's completely out of hand.
