Mayor Rahm Emanuel joined U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin this morning to tout federal funding for two pedestrian bridges over Lake Shore Drive.
The bridges being built at 41st Street and 43rd Street will cross Lake Shore Drive to the lakefront from the Bronzeville neighborhood.
For Durbin, a three-term Democrat who's seeking re-election against Republican state Sen. Jim Oberweis, appearances at events to announce federal money for local projects have been a recurring summer trend.
Durbin took part in the June announcement of federal Defense Department funding for a digital manufacturing lab on Goose Island, and also touted a federal grant to recruit women locally into high-skill jobs.
Durbin announced federal money for work on the CTA Red Line, and for another Lake Shore Drive pedestrian bridge at 35th Street.
