Chicago police have issued a community alert about a string of robberies at or near the Sox/35th Red Line stop.
In four incidents in August and September, men approached riders and demanded money. Sometimes the men used threats or physical force, police said in the alert.
The robberies occurred:
- About 1 p.m. Aug. 28, in the 100 block of West 33rd Street
- About 8:10 a.m. Aug. 30, in the 100 block of West 35th Street
- About 10:10 p.m. Sept. 4, in the 3500 block of South Dan Ryan Expressway
- About 11:23 a.m. Sept. 12, in the 100 block of West 33rd Street
The robbers are described as black men between the ages of 18 to 30, between 5-foot-5 and 6-foot, and 150 to 200 pounds.
In the most recent robbery, there was one attacker who was wearing a black, long-sleeve shirt with white stripes and blue jeans, according to police.
The Sox/35th Red Line stop is the closest CTA station to U.S. Cellular Field. The 35th/Lou Jones/Bronzeville Metra station and the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT Green Line stop are blocks away from the Red Line stop.
In July, the CTA heralded a 22 percent decline in thefts and robberies systemwide.
Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8382.
