The CTA is holding a public meeting in October about new art that will be installed at the Damen Blue Line station.

West Town residents will be able to meet Gaston Nogues of Ball-Nogues Studio, the artist-team selected to create the new artwork for the station. The meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Silver Room, 1442 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The CTA will close the Damen Blue Line stop Oct. 20 to Dec. 22 to paint and repair the platform and stationhouse. After construction is complete, the CTA will install the new artwork at the stop, which originally opened 1895.

The station renovation is part of a $492 million project to improve and upgrade stations and track along the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line. The California Blue Line stop in Logan Square is closed for repairs and will reopen Oct. 16.

The CTA received 100 responses to its call for artists for the Damen, Western and California Blue Line stations. Federal funds will pay for the total art budget for the three stations, which is not to exceed $480,000.

The Ball-Nogues Studio, a Los Angeles-based studio known for a blend of architecture and industrial design, has created installations for display in West Hollywood, Nashville, El Paso and other cities.
