Chicago, we're a very weird city.
We're actually legitimately mourning the loss of hot dogs this week. We're straight up eulogizing encased meats. Then there's a giant women's undergarment is posted up near the beginning of the Magnificent Mile. In a final mark of oddness, we willingly sacrificed one of our city's largest public parks to a festival that has a freak show and welcomes GWAR with open arms.
Yep, the news of the week proves we're a city that doesn't quite have it all together, and neither does this week's RedEye Rundown.
On occasion, an undergarment pops up on the ground in Pioneer Court near the RedEye offices at 435 N. Michigan Ave., but this sucker is by far the most noticeable. The installation is part of an Advocate Health Care campaign, which aims to raise awareness about breast cancer. You have everyone's attention, now!
If you set foot in Humboldt Park for Riot Fest, it's entirely possible your footprint is still there.
Damage to the park was triple the bill from last year, at a cost of 36,000 $5 hot-and-ready pizzas. Can't do math? Click the link for the total, genius.
Planning on hitting up the Hot Doug's line on the very last day? Too bad! Some rich jerk already paid someone as much as $300 to stand there, so go get your duck-fat fix somewhere else, you poor loser! But really, those spots are going for a lot of money, and one of the companies responsible (TaskRabbit), isn't sorry.
Ever wanted to up and quit your job and pursue that one great idea you have? We'd like to help. Submissions are being accepted until Sunday for RedEye's first Big Idea Awards. Hit up the link for all the details. We hope to see you (and your brilliant brain) there.
What a better way to remember the Great Chicago Fire than starting another one. That's what's happening on the Chicago River this weekend at the Great Chicago Fire Festival this weekend. Read all about it through the link, but the short version is if you like to see stuff blow up, you're going to want to be around this weekend.
