Even though he didn't tune in for Monday's Season 2 premiere of Anthony Bourdain's "The Layover," in which the chef and culinary media personality tours cities' food offerings in a short period of time, Longman and Eagle owner Bruce Finkelman was in a forgiving mood. A graphic for the Travel Channel show that introduced the Logan Square spot incorrectly spelled its name"Longmen and Eagle." Finkelman didn't seem fazed when RedEye let him know about the error.
"I guess mistakes happen," he said. "What are you going to do around the Thanksgiving time of year? The most important thing is we're proud (of Longman and Eagle.)"
Not to seem nitpicky--all right, this is very nitpicky--but Bourdain had a few more factual slips when it came to Chicago during the premiere. Here are a few we spotted. Feel free to tweet us if we missed anything else:
- When introducing the famed Billy Goat Tavern, Bourdain explains it sits directly underneath Tribune Tower. Close, but not quite, Anthony. The Goat is actually across the street and underground at 430 N. Michigan Avenue, and the tower stands at 435 N. Michigan. It's forgivable, though, most people do use Trib Tower to point people in the right direction for the "cheezborger" joint.
- Bourdain spent quite a bit of time outside the Loop exploring Chicago's neighborhoods. When he got to Avondale, however, he wasn't spot-on in its pronunciation. It could be chalked up to dialect differences, but Chicago natives were cringing when Bourdain pronounced Avondale with a hard "A."
