Why venture outside to view frozen Chicago when you can sit cozily on your couch and watch what a GoPro captured while flying on a drone? Thanks to news freelance photographer and videographer Colin Hinkle, you can.
In a stunning 2-minute, 50-second video from Hinkle's production company, Soaring Badgers Productions, titled "Chicago: A Bird's-Eye View Part IV - Chiberia," audiences can see aerial views of the Chicago River, Northerly Island, the Adler Planetarium, CTA trains, Lake Michigan and more. Even the ice skating ribbon at the newly opened Maggie Daley Park makes an appearance.
"Part 4 of Chicago in my series of life from above," Hinkle wrote in the descripion of his video on Vimeo.com. "Shot during the winter of January 2015 around Chicago over the course of 2 weeks. All shot in temperatures below 10 degrees F. Really tested the limits of the DJI Phantom 2 and GoPro Hero 4."
Hinkle told RedEye on Sunday that he shot and edited this video to promote his business but said, "I also make these videos because I love the city I live and work in."
It shows. The frozen tundra that is Chicago looks beautiful.
