Although the ice skating ribbon at Maggie Daley Park has been open for only one month, it's become such a hot attraction that more than 28,000 pairs of skates have been rented since Dec. 13.
Skate rentals have generated more than $300,000, Chicago Park District CEO Michael Kelly said Wednesday. Skate rental costs $12 at the ribbon, while admission is free.
Some attractions, including the ice ribbon, renovated field house and areas of the children's play garden, opened last month at the 27.7-acre park. Other amenities, including the climbing wall and a new restaurant, are expected to open later this year.
