Hi. My name is Jordan Monroe Schultz. I'm RedEye's Web editor. And I like to blow shit up.
I like to tear things into tiny little pieces, analyze each of them and put them all back together in a new, fresh way. Reinvention good. Stagnation bad.
Just more than 12 years ago, RedEye's founders took all the little pieces of Chicago news coverage, shook them up and built a new product. With punny headlines, an eye for design and quirky stories, RedEye demonstrated that it was possible to deliver quality print journalism to a young audience.
And now, it's time to enter a whole new era of RedEye. Welcome to the new redeyechicago.com.
Let's face it. Our old site needed a makeover. Bad.
But instead of some botox and overpriced wrinkle cream, we went full reconstructive surgery. And it was all for you, dear reader.
We tossed out everything you weren't using and added new coverage areas you've been telling us you want.
We reorganized, making stories easier to find and share with your friends.
We built a single, responsive experience across devices. Stories on your phone will be the same on your tablet, and stories on your tablet will be the same on your computer. And yes-transitive property-stories on your phone will be the same on your computer.
But don't worry. The newspaper isn't going anywhere. Your iPhone and iPad apps? Nope. Those are staying put.
All the things you love about RedEye - the design, the photography, the reporting, the sassy headlines, the snarky writing, the social media - they're all sticking around. And they'll keep getting better.
Our pretty new online presence is just the first step. We'll continue to break down storytelling only to put back the pieces and add fresh ones to improve the experience.
RedEye, in all of its iterations, is an ongoing experiment.
So join us in celebrating our accomplishments. Won't you? Let's #PaintItRedEye.
All week, the RedEye staff will be doing wacky and wild things to celebrate the launch of our new website. And hopefully you will too.
Use #PaintItRedEye to help show off your favorite newspaper and website to the rest of Chicago and beyond.
Wearing an all-red jumpsuit? #PaintItRedEye. Riding the Red Line to work? #PaintItRedEye. Listening to Taylor Swift's "Red";? #PaintItRedEye. Get into a tomato fight on the Red Line in your red jumpsuit while listening to T-Swift? #PaintItRedEye.
But let's not use the hashtag just for shenanigans and Taylor Swift. Tell us what we got right and where we missed the mark. We want to know what you think and how we can deliver you the best possible experience.
RedEye will continue to reinvent itself and we want you to come along for the ride.
We can't do it without you. Thanks for joining us.
