Of all the gestures of gratitude for late Chicago Cubs great Ernie Banks, there was one Tuesday night that arguably stood taller than the rest.

The south side of the 57-story Blue Cross-Blue Shield Tower in the Loop was lit in blue and white with the words "Mr. Cub" and Banks' jersey number, "14."

The building at the corner of East Randolph Street and Columbus Drive has over the years boasted signs that thanked Chicago Bears great Walter Payton, celebrated the national soccer team, paid tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. and raised breast cancer awareness.

In late 2013, it hosted another sign, this one thanking electrician Chris Gillott for making all the previous signs possible. He died in December of that year at age 57.
