Patrick Kane already has a Calder Trophy (rookie of the year) and a Conn Smythe Trophy (playoff MVP). Could an NHL MVP award be far behind?
Perhaps. The superstar Blackhawks forward is having the best season of his career. It's not just Hawks fans and Chicago media giving Kane props for his spin-o-ramas, no-look assists and backhanded roof shots, either.
RedEye recently asked other NHL stars: What makes Kane such a special player?
Tyler Seguin, Dallas forward
"I even played with Kaner in Switzerland during the lockout and I got to really get my front-row seats of what he can do. His skill set ... I haven't seen anyone that can really touch that, how fast his hands are. He's not the most physical guy, but you can even see how he works out of the corners and how he can just sneak his way and get pucks out of there somehow."
Drew Doughty, Los Angeles defenseman
"You have to play him a little differently, I think, than most people. He's obviously quick, he's got great hands, great vision. You don't want to give him too much room, but at the same time if you chase after him, he's going to make you look stupid."
Ryan Suter, Minnesota defenseman
"Yeah, he's pretty good. [Smiles.] With all top players, you can't try to be too aggressive, too physical. I'm not a very physical player. But with him especially, he's so good at bringing you in and keeping the puck close to him, getting you to reach and trying to take advantage of that. You just have to contain him and hope he doesn't make you look like a fool."
Shea Weber, Nashville defenseman
"It's not easy. It's not like he does just one thing; he does a lot of things so well. It's tough to really shut a guy down completely like that."
Dustin Byfuglien, Winnipeg defenseman
"I'd probably have to say just the way he sees the game. [He] sees the ice very well. His hands could get a lot better. [He] doesn't have very good puck control." (Editor's note: Byfuglien definitely was sarcastic with those last two sentences.)
Claude Giroux, Philadelphia forward
"His quickness when he gets the puck. It's pretty impressive how he can find open ice."
