Hangover helpers

Who better to hook you up with tried-and-true hangover cures than a few past participants of RedEye's Best Bartender competition? Between them, they have your recipe for recovery covered in the form of drugstore finds, a cocktail you can mix at home and even a good laugh.

First, you have to start the night before by chugging as much water as possible before bed and taking at least two extra-strength Tylenols. When you wake up, do the same thing and also drink coconut water and Gatorade. Try Greater Than, which is kind of a mix of both. Then I eat something greasy and relax the rest of the day!"

My recommendation: Slice and score two pieces of raw ginger (skin on), lay the raw ginger in the bottom of a pint glass and press the ginger slices to release the juice. Add ice, three splashes of rhubarb bitters, a squeeze of a lemon quar- ter and 1.5 ounces of Fernet-Branca, an Italian digestif. Top off with San Pellegrino and drink until you feel resolution from the responses to your avid text message and email apologies."

My ultimate is a French toast-fried-egg-bacon- American-cheese sandwich covered in maple syrup with a giant icy cold Coke.  It's exactly like it sounds: You take a couple of pieces of Texas toast dipped in egg, fry it up and load on the crispy bacon, egg, and cheese, then drown it in maple syrup and eat it with a knife and fork.  As far as I know, this concoction can only be found in my kitchen."

A super secret of mine, particularly when I have to be somewhere early in the morning, is to drink Pedialyte. It's actually in the kiddie section of the pharmacy and has more electrolytes than Gatorade."

I recommend chugging a liter bottle of Evian, taking a power-hour nap, then running two miles before consuming bacon and eggs Benedict. Always works for me! If aforementioned are unavailable, opt for McDonald's breakfast and a Diet Coke."

Simple: Put the lime in the coconut and drink 'em both up.  If that doesn't work, you just have to find the dog that bit you and put some of his hair in your next drink.  I cannot confirm, though--I rarely have any of these things handy."

My personal remedy for a hangover is a nice hot bath, drinking tons of water and tak- ing three Advils.  Family members and customers of mine swear by one shot of what you were drinking prior to the hangover--hair of the dog--or bloody marys are worth a try."
