Your eyes did not deceive you. Former Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa-aka the Pinterest guy-conducted a live webcast Wednesday from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. With a poster of himself in the background and moderator feeding him questions from followers on Ustream for about 10 minutes, he touched on subjects ranging from his fashion sense to his family to running for president in his native Dominican Republic (he's not interested).
Sosa said he still follows the Cubs and wished them well, then was asked whether anyone from the team has contacted him.
"I saw that that was in an email, a comment from the owner saying they wanted to reach me and wanted to speak to me," Sosa said. "I don't have any problem with that. They know where I am. I believe that if they want to find me, they have to go up there and call me. I'm always available. Whenever they want to reach me, they know I'm here."
If any such phone call is about a potential coaching position, however, he said it's not in the cards right now.
"No," Sosa said, laughing. "My life and my career has been such a great career that I believe my ability is to be an entrepreneur and not to be a coach; no offense. Maybe one day, we'll never know. Going back to the field, maybe in the future when we have an opportunity with Chicago again, maybe something happens down the road. But right now I'm comfortable here and I like it."
The controversial ballplayer also was asked to weigh in on admitted cheater Lance Armstrong, though Sosa didn't take the bait.
"I am not anybody to go into somebody else's business. I wish him the best. I am living my life," Sosa said. "I have too much on my plate to think about somebody else, but Lance Armstrong is a great person and I hope he continues with his life and I wish him the best."
He did say he belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
"I think so," Sosa said. "I'm not gonna come here and say anything that is gonna jeopardize my future, but time will determine everything. Right now whatever it is, it is. I'm waiting for my time. I'm the type of person that doesn't like controversy. I'm going to wait here, but time will determine everything."
Sosa is equally as patient when it comes to retiring his No. 21 at Wrigley Field.
"I think that is something that I'm looking for, that I want to happen," he said. "It's kind of surprising that it didn't happen before. But like like I said, time will determine everything and when that happens I'll be happy and I'll be there with all my family. I carried that number for 14 years in Chicago and I represented that number [well], so that number should have been retired a long time ago."
