If you missed your chance to ask Cubs slugger-turned-most-interesting-man-on-Pinterest Sammy Sosa a question during his webcast Wednesday, he's got some good news for you.
He had so much fun doing it that there's going to be a sequel.
"In the near future," Sosa said via e-mail through Robert Miller, a rep for his company Injex21.
Sosa's webcast lasted about 10 minutes. He said he had to cut it short because of his busy schedule, which doesn't include any involvement in the game that made him a wealthy man.
"I run two companies," he said of Injex 21 and Riverhead Homes. "I have other obligations. I just wanted to make sure that all supporters get the real me."
Over the course of that time, he covered a number of topics, including whether or not he believes he's a Hall of Famer ("I think so. I'm not gonna come here and say anything that is gonna jeopardize my future, but time will determine everything."); if he could see himself being involved with the Cubs again ("I don't have any problem with that. They know where I am. I believe that if they want to find me, they have to go up there and call me. I'm always available."); and his thoughts about the Cubs retiring his number 21 ("It's kind of surprising that it didn't happen before. But like I said, time will determine everything and when that happens.").
Sosa said via e-mail that the chat will remain up on his official UStream channel. So far, it has been viewed nearly 20,000 times, a number that is expected to continue to increase.
It's something that brings as much joy to the slugger as baseball once did.
"It's great," Sosa said. "For a long time I had no connection with my fans and now I got it back. I feel close to them again. Now you know where to find me!"
Since playing his last game in 2007, he's been relatively silent on social media. Recently however, he decided to ramp up his efforts by being more active on Twitter, Facebook and yes, Pinterest.
So why now?
"I was silent before because I didn't have infrastructure," he said. "That happens when you stay at home without knowing what's going to happen next, what's going to happen in the future. Now I have a great team around me. I live for this--to be able to reach out to my fans."
Sosa said his next chat won't be so short, although he didn't specify what--if any--topics would be off-limits. As for when we can expect to see him broadcasting live again, he wouldn't specify an exact date.
"Stay tuned," he said.
