Popular Boystown bar Sidetrack is in the midst of a face-lift.

MainBar, of a few bars within Sidetrack, has shut off its signature pink neon light and now is covered in tarps and blankets.

It's all part of a "refresh," according to general manager Chuck Hyde.

"The bar's been that way since '94," Hyde said. "We need to update things. It's going to be different, and the perspective will literally change people's perception of the room."

The perspective involves ripping out the entire bar as well as moving the video screen to the opposite side of the room. The wall where the screen had been will be replaced with a glass one, allowing people to see into the Mainbar from the hallway and from CherryBar.

Though there are changes afoot, Sidetrack remains open, and guests will have a walkway to travel through MainBar during construction.

MainBar was an iconic room in one of Boystown's most spacious and popular bars, so it's not a surprise that Sidetrack's owners have stuck with the same architects and designers who wereresponsible for Sidetrack's other rooms.

Still, Hyde says people familiar with the original MainBar will be in for a surprise when it's finally revealed this spring.

"Heads are going to turn a little bit," he promises.
