Aaron Wolfson realized that when you deep fry an Oreo covered in chocolate cake batter and peanut butter, the confection comes out looking like a hockey puck.
So in honor of the Hawks' epic winning streak to begin a shortened season, the owner of Lincoln Park's Chicago Doghouse is giving away the new dessert for free.
"It came to me, these little things look like hockey pucks," he said. "You know what I'm going to do? We're going to give them away every time the Hawks win."
And he's made good on the promise for the last two wins for the red-hot Hawks. He said dozens of customers have come into the shop to claim their free dessert, no strings attached. He said he does ask those who get their celebratory sweets to check in on Facebook, but it's optional. Mostly, he's just excited for the attention to his business, and the support for the Hawks.
"I like all Chicago sports, right now obviously the Hawks are on fire, my passion is towards them right now," he said, adding that Hawks memorabilia lines the walls of the restaurant, and the game is always on when the team plays. "They're going to go all the way this year, I know we are."
The Oreo dessert isn't the only Hawks-themed item on the menu. Wolfson has also created the "Hawks Dawg," a hot dog with beer battered onion rings, diced black olives that look like pucks, cheddar cheese and "Stanley Cup Secret Sauce."
Wolfson said the giveaway won't stop if the Hawks streak ends. He plans to keep the promotion alive all season. He's also not stopping. Currently, the doghouse is trying to get the attention of Andrew Shaw, so he could come to the shop and create a "Shaw Dog."
Why Shaw?
"We were talking about it, Andrew Shaw isn't as big as Kane or some of the other plays," he said. "It would be funny if they were in the locker room and he could brag about having his own hot dog and the other players don't."
