Runners started entering a lottery to register for the Chicago Marathon at 12:01 a.m., Tuesday.
Marathon registration was briefly open for a few hours last month until Web problems forced officials to shut the process down. Thirty thousand runners were able to register before registration was closed.
Some runners reported lengthy waits to pay for their registration while others said they paid twice. The marathon said all those who were charged twice have been reimbursed.
Fifteen thousand spots remain for the Oct. 13 race. Runners can submit their names to the lottery at chicagomarathon.com until 9 p.m., Thursday. Marathon officials will choose 15,000 names and notify those selected on March 12.
Selected runners have until 9 p.m. March 14, to register.
The Chicago Marathon costs $175 for U.S. participants. Registration used to be first come, first served. The marathon sold out last year in six days, a record.
