A map of Chicago' s "L" system just got a 16-bit upgrade.

Comedian, blogger and video editor Robert Bacon followed up on his viral Super Mario Bros. 3 map Tuesday, releasing a Super Mario World version that mimics the Super Nintendo Entertainment System classic.

"Well now that I know I'm not the only one who really likes CTA maps in classic video game themes I decided to spend the time and make a proper Super Mario World "L" Map," he said on his ChicagoNow blog, "Inside Chicago Improv." The new version, which features Mario's cape feathers to represent airports and details the loop as Bowser's Castle, quickly rose to the top of Chicago subreddit r/Chicago.

ChicagoNow is part of the Chicago Tribune Media Group, as is RedEye.

Bacon made the original CTA map in the style of Super Mario Bros. 3 last week, after a similar version of Washington DC's metro went viral. Bacon has also made both versions available in poster form for purchase.

Bacon said that he never expected the drawings, which he makes pixel by pixel in Adobe Photoshop, to be so popular.

"I didn't think anyone would care about these this much, but it just exploded," he said, adding that "every free moment" this past weekend was spent creating the Super Mario World version. He said the game was a favorite when he was a kid.

Next up, Bacon said he'll work on a version inspired by The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, which he expects to take a few weeks.
