Before we get into this, we should warn you: It's is not for the faint of heart.
Malort, the liquor that's as famous for its, uh, intimidating taste as it is for its legendary strength and unbeatable price, will be taking center stage Saturday at Paddy Long's in Lincoln Park during Malort Night 2: The Cheap Beer Festival.
As the fest's name implies, Malort will be paired up with its most logical companion--cheap beer.
"They're both things people love to hate, hate to love," said Sam Mechling, director of social networking and events for Malort and bartender at Paddy Long's.
According to Mechling, Saturday night will essentially be a celebration of Malort, whose notoriety and strength, he said, come from its flavor, not its alcohol content.
The event will feature a whole llist of "cheap beers" for $2 a piece. Shots of Malort will be $3.
With those prices, it may be tempting to go buckwild, but guests should retain some measure of lucidity if they hope to win the slogan contest, during which all of the event attendees are asked to come up with clever advertisting hooks for Malort. The winner will get a free shirt (they'll be selling shirts at a discounted price of $20).
Mechling warns Malort enthusiasts to get there early--the event starts at 8, and while the bar is technically open till 2, it will close earlier if the one-two punch of Malort and cheap beer knocks guests out of the ring first (likely).
