Members of the online cycling forum thechainlink.org are organizing a memorial Friday morning for bicycle riders killed during their commutes.

The memorial for Neill Townsend and Clint Miceli runs from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the northwest corner of Wells Street and Oak Street and will conclude with a silent ride to the Loop.

Townsend, 32, was killed this month on his way to work when a parked driver opened a car door that pushed him under the wheels of a passing semi truck. Miceli, 22, was killed in 2008 when he collided with an open SUV door and was thrown into traffic, according to news reports.

The city enacted an ordinance that year making anyone found guilty of opening a car door into traffic and causing a collision with a bicycle eligible for a $500 fine.
