Chicago-based Calumet Photographic abruptly announced nationwide closing of its stores Thursday morning after 75 years in business.
According to a Facebook post on the company's page, all stores located in the United States have been closed effective immediately. The company's website was also unavailable Thursday morning. According to the post, stores in the United Kingdom are unaffected.
"After 75 years of business, it is with a heavy heart that we announce our immediate closing in the United States (our European stores will continue)," the post reads. "It has been a joy to share our passion for photography with you all of these years. We'll miss each other and we'll miss all of our customers. Thank you for everything."
Comments on the post ranged from sad to angry, with some users claiming to be employees who had no notice of the closure. The company has a location in Goose Island, as well as suburban Oak Brook.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the company has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
